Epidemiologic Study of Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome

Abstract
We reviewed the cases of HFRS who were admitted at CAFGH to evaluate epidemiologic Characteristics of HFRS in Korean Army.
The number of hospitalized cases during 1961-1970, 1971-1980, 1981-1990 were 185, 230, and 127 per year, and mortality during the same periods were 11.5%, 5.6%, and 3.9%, respectively. Seasonality of HFRS from May to July decreased from 17.3% in
its
proportion over the periods. These results suggested that number of HFRS patients and mortality have decreased and the endemic pattern changed from two peaks to one. There was little change in the distribution of prevalent area of HFRS and little
tendency to spreading to non-prevalent area during 1976-1990. Primary shock, pulmonary hemorrhage, and cerebrovascular accident were common causes of death during 1977-1990 and the primary shock was leading causes of death whose proportion has
decreased
during 1986-1990. Over 50% of fatal cases died within one week from onset of the illness and it was oliguric phase that death occurred most frequently during 1986-1990.
